A British man tried to sell a 3-month-old girl to strangers in a shopping mall for $1,500, police said.

The 28-year-old allegedly offered to swap the tot, who he was pushing in a pram, for the cash at the Barton Arcade in Manchester at around 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

He also approached several people in the street and inside a store nearby,reports the Manchester Evening News.

Worried witnesses contacted cops, who launched a major manhunt. Dozens of officers swarmed the city's streets in a bid to locate the suspect.

The man was eventually detained and arrested on suspicion of child neglect. He is currently being questioned.

The little girl was found safe and in good health, according to the Independent.

Greater Manchester Police's Liam Boden thanked local citizens for helping out with the search.

"We have now arrested a man on suspicion of child neglect and will be questioning him in relation to the incident as we try to establish the full circumstances," he added.
