PKK opens fire on military hospital in Turkey’s east

A group of militants from the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) opened fire late Aug. 2 on a military hospital in the eastern province of Bitlis, but no casualties were reported.

The Bitlis Governor’s Office said in a statement that the militants opened fire with long-barreled guns on the hospital in the Tatvan district from the roof of a work center. The governor’s office said only the hospital’s guard tower sustained material damage.

The militants fled the scene in a black car, the statement read.

In a separate attempt early Aug. 3, PKK militants exploded a mine laid on the Bitlis-Diyarbakır motorway as two military vehicles were passing by. No casualties were reported in the attack.
