Clashes Resolved 6/16/16

The Torkham gate closed on Saturday after Pakistan border forces tried to build a gate. A skirmish broke out after Afghan border police tried to stop them.

Pakistani officials claim however that the installation was being built on their soil.

In total three Afghan policemen and two civilians have been killed in the clash. In addition 21 Afghan border police have been wounded.

Pakistan has however confirmed that one of its army officers was killed and a number of their border police injured.

Pakistan on Wednesday summoned Omar Zakhilwal and lodged a protest over the death of an army major in shelling by the Afghan forces.

Major Ali Jawad Khan, who was injured in cross-border firing at Torkham border on Saturday, reportedly died of his wounds in a military hospital in Peshawar on Tuesday.

Pakistan's foreign secretary rejected allegations from Afghanistan that the construction work being undertaken by Pakistan was in violation of agreements and understandings reached between the two countries, Pakistan media reports.
